Residential yoga and wellness retreats in the heart of Pembrokeshire. Small groups, experienced teachers, organic food, and the restorative power of the Welsh coast.
Tidal Roots was founded in 2016 by Clara and David Hughes, with a single clear intention: to create a space where the pressures of modern life could genuinely fall away. Nestled in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, just minutes from some of the most spectacular shoreline in Britain, our farmhouse retreat has welcomed hundreds of guests who arrived exhausted and left transformed.
We believe that the setting matters as much as the practice. The salt air, the sound of waves reaching the clifftops at night, the quality of light over St Bride's Bay at dawn — these are not incidental details. They are the retreat itself.
"We don't rush you through a schedule. We create the conditions for stillness — and let you find your own way there."
Everything at Tidal Roots is intentionally small. We take no more than twelve guests per retreat. Our teaching team is experienced, warm, and deeply committed to yoga as a living practice, not a performance. There are no distractions here. There is only the coast, the countryside, and time — which, in our experience, is exactly what most people need.
The Pembrokeshire Coast Path runs for 186 miles around one of the most rugged and beautiful stretches of British shoreline. You'll walk sections of it on every retreat — a genuinely moving experience that no classroom can replicate.
Beyond the cliff edge lies a patchwork of ancient fields, wildflower meadows and sheltered lanes. Our retreat sits at the heart of this landscape, surrounded by working farmland that gives it a quality of quiet few places in Britain can match.
Within twenty minutes of the retreat lie a dozen beaches, from the sweeping expanse of Newgale Sands to hidden coves accessible only on foot. Wild swimming after a morning practice is, for many guests, the highlight of their stay.
Whether you have a long weekend or a full week, each retreat is designed to deliver a complete experience — not a shortened one. We run a different programme for each duration.
Arrive Friday evening, leave Monday morning restored. Designed for those with limited time but a genuine need for rest. Two full days of practice, walks, organic meals, and stillness.
Our most popular retreat. Four nights gives the nervous system time to genuinely shift. By day three, guests consistently report sleeping more deeply than they have in years.
The complete Tidal Roots experience. Seven days of daily practice, exploration, nourishment, and genuine restoration. Many guests describe it as the most transformative week of their adult lives.
A Tidal Roots retreat is a complete, considered experience. From the moment you arrive to the moment you leave, there is nothing to think about except your own restoration.
Two sessions per day — a grounding morning practice (Hatha or Vinyasa) and a restorative afternoon or evening class. Suitable for all levels, from complete beginners to experienced practitioners.
Each morning begins with a thirty-minute guided meditation before the yoga practice. We use a variety of approaches — breath-centred, open awareness, body scan — to help guests find what works for them.
Our farmhouse has eight rooms — a mix of private en-suite rooms and shared twin rooms with private bathrooms. All are simply furnished, warm, and designed to encourage rest rather than distraction.
All meals are prepared fresh using organic, seasonal ingredients — primarily sourced from local farms and our own kitchen garden. Vegetarian as standard; vegan, gluten-free, and other requirements are gladly accommodated.
Guided walks along the Pembrokeshire Coast Path are a central part of every retreat. We walk at a gentle, contemplative pace — the aim is presence, not distance. These walks are consistently guests' favourite element of the programme.
With a maximum of twelve guests, every retreat is intimate. Teachers know every guest by name and can offer individual attention within group sessions. There is no anonymity here, and no one falls through the cracks.
Evenings are a mix of structured and free time. You might attend a yoga nidra session, a talk on breathwork or the philosophy of yoga, or simply sit with a book by the woodburner. We never fill your time without reason.
Many guests choose to surrender their phones on arrival. We hold them safely and return them on departure. Wi-Fi is available for those who need it, but it is not promoted. The natural quiet of the setting makes disconnecting feel surprisingly easy.
Our days are structured enough to feel held, and spacious enough to feel free. We never cram the schedule. Transition time, rest, and unstructured space are as important as the formal sessions.
The exact schedule varies by retreat type and group. This is a representative day from our Midweek Immersion programme.
Every Tidal Roots teacher has a minimum of 500 hours of formal training, years of personal practice, and a genuine warmth in the room. We do not book visiting teachers — the team you see is the team you'll meet.
Clara has been teaching yoga for fourteen years. She trained in Mysore with Sri K. Pattabhi Jois's lineage before moving into Hatha and Yin practice. She is the heart of Tidal Roots — guests invariably mention her name first when describing why they return.
David leads the meditation and pranayama elements of the retreat. He trained in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition and spent two years on retreat in Nepal before returning to Wales. His guided sessions are remarkably effective even for those who have never meditated before.
Seren is a certified nutritional therapist and restorative yoga teacher. She designs the retreat menus and leads the afternoon restorative sessions. Her food is widely considered one of the most memorable aspects of a stay at Tidal Roots.
Seren prepares every meal from scratch, using produce grown on site and sourced from organic farms within fifteen miles of the retreat. There is no catering here in any industrial sense — just genuinely good, carefully considered food.
All meals are vegetarian as standard. We happily accommodate vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, and other dietary requirements — please let us know when booking. Herbal teas, filtered water, and light snacks are available throughout the day.
On every retreat, we walk together on the Pembrokeshire Coast Path and through the surrounding countryside. These are not exercise sessions — they are a continuation of the practice begun on the mat: presence, attention, and quiet.
3.5 miles along cliff edge with panoramic Atlantic views. Usually walked in the late morning when the light is best.
A varied 5-mile route through farmland, headland, and hidden beach. Seals often visible on the rocks below in autumn.
A quieter, gentler stretch of coast — perfect for slower walkers or for a contemplative solo afternoon. Sandy beach at low tide.
A 2-mile circle through the farm's own land and neighbouring meadows. Spectacular in spring and early summer. Suitable for all fitness levels.
"I came expecting a yoga holiday and left feeling like I'd been genuinely looked after for the first time in years. Clara's teaching is extraordinary — she meets you exactly where you are. I've booked again for November."
"The food alone was worth the journey. Seren's cooking is something else — the sort of meals that make you want to rethink how you eat at home. Combined with David's meditations and the walks, it was genuinely one of the best experiences of my adult life."
"I'm a complete beginner and was terrified. By the second morning I felt completely at home. No judgement, no pressure, no performance — just a warm, knowledgeable team who clearly love what they do. I left with a daily practice that I've kept for eight months now."
"The setting is really special. Waking up to the sound of the coast, walking the Path in the afternoon light, the fire in the farmhouse in the evenings. Pembrokeshire does something to your nervous system that no amount of meditation apps can replicate."
"I've been to probably ten different yoga retreats across Europe. Tidal Roots is the only one I've returned to three times. It's the combination of place, teaching quality, and the genuine care the team has for each guest. There is nothing quite like it in Britain."
"I was sceptical about yoga retreats in general — my wife convinced me to come. I am now a complete convert. David's introduction to meditation practice changed how I deal with work stress. I owe him, frankly."

We run retreats year-round. Each season has its own character — spring brings wildflowers and lambs; autumn brings dramatic light and empty paths. All are equally worthwhile.

Not at all. Every retreat is open to complete beginners as well as experienced practitioners. Our teachers are skilled at working with mixed-ability groups and offering modifications so that every session is accessible and useful regardless of your background.
Absolutely. The majority of our guests are solo travellers. The small group format naturally creates connection — most guests leave with friendships that continue long after the retreat. You will not feel alone or out of place.
All meals are vegetarian as standard. We readily accommodate vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, and most other requirements — please let us know when you book. We ask that you inform us of any allergies or medical dietary needs so Seren can plan accordingly.
The coastal walks are gentle and are not fitness challenges. We walk at a contemplative pace on well-maintained paths. That said, the Coast Path does involve some uneven ground and gentle inclines. If you have mobility concerns, please contact us before booking — we can often accommodate adjustments.
Full directions and transport information are sent on booking. The retreat is approximately 3.5 hours from London by train to Haverfordwest, from where we can arrange a taxi or you can hire a car. By car from Cardiff it is roughly 2 hours. We also organise a shared transfer from Haverfordwest station on arrival and departure days.
Signal in rural Pembrokeshire is variable — typically poor or absent on parts of the Coast Path, and patchy at the farmhouse. Many guests find this a relief rather than an inconvenience. Wi-Fi is available in the farmhouse and works reliably for messaging and email, though we encourage treating the retreat as a genuine break from screens.
Yes, and many do. We have private double rooms for couples. The retreat programme is individual rather than couples-focused, but partners often find the shared experience — particularly the walks and evening sessions — a genuinely valuable thing to do together.
In the very unlikely event that we need to cancel a retreat (for example due to a teacher illness or extreme weather), we will offer a full refund or free transfer to an alternative date. We have operated continuously since 2016 and have never needed to cancel a retreat for organisational reasons.
Full address and directions provided on booking confirmation
The retreat is signposted from the B4341 and sits within a working farm approximately 400 metres from the Coast Path. Full directions are sent with your booking confirmation.
Send us an enquiry using the form and we will get back to you within one working day. Alternatively, call us on the number below — we are always happy to talk through any questions before you commit.
Places are limited to twelve guests per retreat and popular dates fill up quickly. We recommend booking at least six weeks in advance to secure your preferred date and room type. A 30% deposit holds your place with the balance due six weeks before arrival.
Most guests say the same thing after they arrive: they only wish they had done it sooner. Do not put it off for another year.
