Chapter One

Carmarthen has never been short of places to grab a coffee. But there was always something missing from King Street: a place where the coffee itself was the point. Not a rushed takeaway, not a chain formula, but a bar where every cup was crafted with intention, where the barista knew the roast profile as well as your name. That gap is exactly where Time Coffee was born, and the town has been better for it since.

"We didn't open a coffee shop. We opened a space where people could slow down, take a breath, and drink something that actually deserved their attention."

The name says it all. Time is not about rushing through a transaction. It is about giving yourself permission to pause in a world that rarely encourages it. In the oldest town in Wales, that philosophy feels oddly right, as if the ancient streets of Carmarthen were always waiting for somewhere like this.

The Coffee
What fills your cup

Crafted, Not Manufactured

E
Espresso
From 2.40

Our house espresso is roasted by a small Welsh roastery. Notes of dark chocolate and caramel with a clean, sweet finish. Pulled with precision, every single time.

F
Flat White
From 3.20

Velvety microfoam over a double ristretto. The drink that brought us our regulars. Perfectly balanced, served in our signature ceramic cups.

P
Pour Over
From 3.80

Single origin, hand-poured to order. We rotate our selection monthly, always highlighting a different farm and flavour profile. Ask us what's on today.

C
Cold Brew
From 3.50

Steeped for eighteen hours in cold water, our cold brew is smooth, naturally sweet, and dangerously drinkable. Available summer months and by popular demand.

M
Matcha Latte
From 3.60

Ceremonial grade matcha whisked to order, steamed with your choice of milk. Earthy, smooth, and vibrant. For the days when coffee is not what you need.

H
Hot Chocolate

Real chocolate, melted and frothed. Not a powder, not a sachet. Rich, indulgent, topped with whipped cream and a dusting of cocoa. A Carmarthen winter essential.

The Craft
How we make it matter

From Bean to Cup

1

Source with Care

We work with small, independent roasteries who share our values. Every bean is traceable, ethically sourced, and selected for flavour above all else. No bulk buying, no compromise.

2

Dial In Daily

Coffee changes with humidity, temperature, and time. Every morning before we open, we dial in our grinder, pull test shots, and adjust until the extraction is exactly where it should be.

3

Steam with Intention

Milk is not an afterthought. We texture every jug to a silky microfoam, integrating air precisely so the drink has body without being heavy. Whether dairy or oat, the standard is the same.

4

Serve with Pride

Every drink leaves the bar looking as good as it tastes. We take pride in latte art, clean cups, and the moment a customer takes that first sip. That is the whole point of what we do.

5

Learn and Evolve

We are always tasting, always learning. From cupping sessions with our roasters to experimenting with new brewing methods, standing still is not in our vocabulary.

Why We Do This Differently

Carmarthen deserves better than chain coffee. This town has been a market town for centuries, built on independent traders and local character. We see Time Coffee as part of that tradition.

Every decision we make comes back to one question: does this make the experience better for the person drinking the coffee? If not, we do not do it. It is that simple.

We keep our menu tight so everything on it is excellent. We train our staff properly so they understand what they are serving. We invest in equipment so the output is consistent. And we keep our prices fair because good coffee should not be a luxury.

Independent Always

No franchise, no corporate parent. Just us, our coffee, and our community. Every pound spent here stays local.

Quality Over Quantity

We would rather serve one hundred brilliant cups a day than three hundred average ones. No shortcuts, no substitutions.

Sustainability Matters

Reusable cup discount, compostable takeaway packaging, and a commitment to reducing waste wherever we can. Small steps, honestly taken.

Carmarthen First

We source locally where possible, support other independent businesses, and believe that a strong high street starts with people choosing local.

The Space

Four Things We Get Right

L
Light

Natural light floods through our King Street windows. We designed the space to feel warm and open, not cramped and dark.

S
Sound

Curated playlists, never too loud. The clink of ceramic, the hiss of steam, the murmur of conversation. This is not a silent library or a noisy pub.

S
Seats

Window perches for watchers, corner nooks for workers, the communal table for friends. Every seat has a purpose and a view.

W
Welcome

Walk in alone, with your dog, with your laptop, with your children. Everyone is welcome here, and regulars become friends.

V
The People
Our community, our regulars

More Than a Coffee Bar

A coffee bar is only as good as the people who walk through its door. Over the years, Time Coffee has become a gathering point for Carmarthen: freelancers meeting clients, parents catching a breath, students cramming for exams, friends who have been coming every Saturday since we opened.

That is not something you can design. It happens when the coffee is good, the welcome is genuine, and the space feels like it belongs to everyone. We are proud that Time has become part of people's routines, part of their week, part of their story in this town.

"The best flat white in Carmarthen, and I have tried them all. This place just gets it right. The staff know my order before I reach the counter."

Regular Customer

"I work remotely and Time is my office three days a week. Good coffee, good wifi, and nobody rushes you. Exactly what this town needed."

Freelancer

"Saturday mornings would not be the same without our family trip to Time. The kids get hot chocolate, we get peace and proper coffee. Everyone wins."

Time Coffee, Carmarthen
The Idea

A Conversation Over Coffee

It started the way most good things do: two people talking about what Carmarthen was missing. The town had history, community, character, but no dedicated specialty coffee bar where the drink itself was treated with real craft. The idea took hold and would not let go.

The Search

Finding King Street

Location was everything. It had to be central, accessible, and have the right feel. When the unit on King Street came up, it was obvious. Good footfall, natural light, and enough space to create something intimate without feeling cramped. The lease was signed within a week.

The Build

Stripped Back, Built Up

The fitout was done with local hands. Exposed brick where it made sense, clean lines where it did not. A proper La Marzocco machine, a Mahlkonig grinder, and a bar layout designed for efficiency and conversation. Every detail was deliberate.

Opening Day

The First Pour

Doors opened early on a Tuesday morning. No fanfare, no launch party. Just great coffee, nervous baristas, and Carmarthen deciding whether this new place deserved its loyalty. The queue on that first Saturday answered the question.

Growing

Regulars and Rituals

Within months, patterns formed. The 7:30 flat white before work. The mid-morning mothers' group. The Saturday afternoon lingerers. Time Coffee became woven into Carmarthen's weekly rhythm, one cup at a time.

Today

Still Here, Still Independent

The coffee is better than ever. The menu has evolved. The team has grown. But the principle has not changed: serve the best coffee we can, treat people well, and give Carmarthen a place worth visiting every single day.
