Good food, fine drink & warm company — since time immemorial
Tucked in the heart of Llandybie, The Red Lion is your local. We cook every dish to order using the finest produce from Welsh farms and suppliers — and we pour drinks worth lingering over.
Nestled in the village of Llandybie, a stone’s throw from Ammanford in beautiful Carmarthenshire, The Red Lion is exactly what a Welsh pub should be: genuine, unpretentious, and unfailingly welcoming.
We have always believed that great hospitality begins with great ingredients. Our kitchen works closely with local farmers, butchers, and producers across West Wales to put the very best of the region on your plate — cooked to order, every time, no exceptions.
Whether you’re dropping in for a pint after work, sitting down to a leisurely Sunday lunch with the family, or treating someone to our celebrated Afternoon Tea, you will always find a warm fire, a friendly face, and something worth eating and drinking.
Every dish made fresh from scratch when you order it. We do not use pre-prepared meals.
Welsh beef, lamb, seasonal vegetables, and dairy from farms we know and trust.
A carefully selected wine list, real ales, craft spirits, and thoughtful non-alcoholic options.
Our signature afternoon tea — elegant, generous, and entirely homemade.
Our menu changes with the seasons to reflect the best of what’s available locally. Every dish is prepared in our kitchen using fresh, whole ingredients sourced from trusted Welsh suppliers.
West Wales has exceptional food producers — and we know most of them personally. Building relationships with local farms and suppliers is not a marketing exercise; it is simply how we have always done things.
Our beef and lamb come from farms within a few miles of Llandybie. Our vegetables are bought seasonally to ensure freshness and to support the agricultural communities that make this part of Wales so special. Our dairy is Welsh, our bread is baked locally, and our eggs come from free-range hens we could probably visit on a Sunday afternoon.
When you eat at The Red Lion, you are tasting Carmarthenshire on a plate.
Dry-aged Welsh Black beef sourced from farms in the Tywi Valley and surrounding areas.
Cockles and mussels from the famous Penclawdd beds on the Gower — a Welsh institution.
Welsh milk, butter and cream from herds grazing the lush pastures of Carmarthenshire.
Leeks, cabbage, root vegetables and seasonal salads from growers across West Wales.
Fresh loaves and rolls baked locally each morning to accompany our soups and starters.
Pure Welsh honey used across our menu and available to purchase from the bar.
We take our drinks as seriously as our food. Whether you prefer a carefully chosen wine, a well-kept real ale, a premium spirit or something alcohol-free, you will find it here.
Our wine list is chosen to complement our food, with bottles spanning Old and New World styles.
Rotational cask ales alongside hand-picked draught and bottled selections, with a celebration of Welsh brewing.
Premium spirits including Welsh gins and whiskies, alongside a thoughtful selection of non-alcoholic drinks.
Our Afternoon Tea is one of the finest in Carmarthenshire — a generous, unhurried affair made entirely from scratch in our kitchen. Perfect for birthdays, celebrations, or simply because Tuesday afternoon deserves something special.
Booking Required: Afternoon Tea is served Wednesday to Sunday, 2:00pm – 5:00pm. We kindly ask for 48 hours’ notice to ensure everything is freshly prepared for your visit. For groups of six or more, please contact us directly to discuss arrangements. Call us on 01269 850 XXX or use our booking form below.
The Red Lion is a pub in the truest sense — a place that belongs to its community, that welcomes everyone, and that always has time for another round.
Exposed beams, a warm open fire in winter, mismatched chairs that have heard a thousand good conversations — this is a pub that takes no shortcuts with its character. Come for one drink; stay for the evening.
Our dining room is unhurried and comfortable — the sort of place where you can linger over three courses without feeling rushed. Children and dogs are very welcome in the bar and garden areas.
When the Welsh weather permits (and sometimes when it doesn’t), our beer garden is a lovely spot to sit with a cold drink and watch village life pass by. Full food and drinks service available outside.
From intimate birthday dinners to full private hire, we have the space, the catering and the experience to make your occasion truly memorable.
Whether it’s a milestone birthday, a ruby wedding anniversary or a graduation dinner, let us take care of everything. We can arrange a set menu, a cake on arrival, and reserved seating for parties of any size.

Find Out MoreWe let our guests do the talking. Here is a selection of what visitors to The Red Lion have had to say about their experience.
The lamb shank was extraordinary — falling off the bone and clearly made with real love and the best local produce. The Red Lion is everything a Welsh pub should be. We drove from Swansea and will absolutely do so again.
We booked the Prosecco Afternoon Tea for my mother’s birthday and it was absolutely perfect. Every sandwich, every scone, every cake was made on the premises and you could really taste the difference. The staff were warm and attentive throughout. Highly recommended.
A hidden gem in the Carmarthenshire countryside. The Sunday roast is the best I’ve had in years — generous portions, proper roasties, and a gravy that clearly had time spent on it. Already planning our next visit.
Popped in on a Tuesday evening not expecting much, and left absolutely delighted. The beer was well-kept, the burger was first class, and the atmosphere was exactly what you want from a local pub. This is our new regular.
We held a wake here after my father’s funeral and I cannot thank the staff enough. They handled everything with such sensitivity and kindness, the food was wonderful, and they went above and beyond to make a very difficult day a little more bearable. Thank you, Red Lion.
The Welsh cheese board after my main was outstanding — Y Fenni and Black Bomber together with homemade chutney. The wine list is more considered than you might expect from a village pub, too. Genuinely impressive.
We are in the heart of Llandybie village, just a few minutes from Ammanford and easily accessible from across Carmarthenshire and beyond.
