The Heart of Llandybie Since It Opened Its Doors

Nestled in the village of Llandybie, a stone’s throw from Ammanford in beautiful Carmarthenshire, The Red Lion is exactly what a Welsh pub should be: genuine, unpretentious, and unfailingly welcoming.

We have always believed that great hospitality begins with great ingredients. Our kitchen works closely with local farmers, butchers, and producers across West Wales to put the very best of the region on your plate — cooked to order, every time, no exceptions.

Whether you’re dropping in for a pint after work, sitting down to a leisurely Sunday lunch with the family, or treating someone to our celebrated Afternoon Tea, you will always find a warm fire, a friendly face, and something worth eating and drinking.

Proud to Buy Welsh, Proud to Cook Welsh

West Wales has exceptional food producers — and we know most of them personally. Building relationships with local farms and suppliers is not a marketing exercise; it is simply how we have always done things.

Our beef and lamb come from farms within a few miles of Llandybie. Our vegetables are bought seasonally to ensure freshness and to support the agricultural communities that make this part of Wales so special. Our dairy is Welsh, our bread is baked locally, and our eggs come from free-range hens we could probably visit on a Sunday afternoon.

When you eat at The Red Lion, you are tasting Carmarthenshire on a plate.

More Than a Meal Out

The Red Lion is a pub in the truest sense — a place that belongs to its community, that welcomes everyone, and that always has time for another round.

The Bar

A Proper Welsh Pub

Exposed beams, a warm open fire in winter, mismatched chairs that have heard a thousand good conversations — this is a pub that takes no shortcuts with its character. Come for one drink; stay for the evening.

The Dining Room

Relaxed Dining

Our dining room is unhurried and comfortable — the sort of place where you can linger over three courses without feeling rushed. Children and dogs are very welcome in the bar and garden areas.

The Garden

Beer Garden

When the Welsh weather permits (and sometimes when it doesn’t), our beer garden is a lovely spot to sit with a cold drink and watch village life pass by. Full food and drinks service available outside.

Straight from the Horse’s Mouth

We let our guests do the talking. Here is a selection of what visitors to The Red Lion have had to say about their experience.

The lamb shank was extraordinary — falling off the bone and clearly made with real love and the best local produce. The Red Lion is everything a Welsh pub should be. We drove from Swansea and will absolutely do so again.

Helen M. Swansea

We booked the Prosecco Afternoon Tea for my mother’s birthday and it was absolutely perfect. Every sandwich, every scone, every cake was made on the premises and you could really taste the difference. The staff were warm and attentive throughout. Highly recommended.

Sioned T. Llanelli

A hidden gem in the Carmarthenshire countryside. The Sunday roast is the best I’ve had in years — generous portions, proper roasties, and a gravy that clearly had time spent on it. Already planning our next visit.

David R. Carmarthen

Popped in on a Tuesday evening not expecting much, and left absolutely delighted. The beer was well-kept, the burger was first class, and the atmosphere was exactly what you want from a local pub. This is our new regular.

James & Claire P. Ammanford

We held a wake here after my father’s funeral and I cannot thank the staff enough. They handled everything with such sensitivity and kindness, the food was wonderful, and they went above and beyond to make a very difficult day a little more bearable. Thank you, Red Lion.

Megan W. Llandybie

The Welsh cheese board after my main was outstanding — Y Fenni and Black Bomber together with homemade chutney. The wine list is more considered than you might expect from a village pub, too. Genuinely impressive.

Andrew F. Cardiff
