“The crab on toast was extraordinary — you could taste exactly where it came from. We watched the chefs through the kitchen window the whole meal. The whole thing felt proper, unhurried and completely right for a Saturday afternoon in West Wales.”
A proper country pub, cooked from scratch
Tucked into the village of Penrhiwllan, just a short drive from Cardigan, The Daffodil Inn is a place where the food does the talking. Our chefs prepare everything fresh each day — from buttery Welsh lamb to hand-picked coastal herbs — using produce from farms and fishermen you can name.
Whether you are stopping off after a morning on Newquay beach, drying off after a paddle at Llandysul canoeing centre, or simply looking for a long, unhurried lunch in the Ceredigion countryside, you have found the right place.
Honest food, cooked well
Our menus change with the seasons and whatever arrives from our local producers. Below is a flavour of what you might find on your visit.
Full seasonal menu available in-house
Reserve Your Table“We believe the best meal starts long before it reaches the table — with a farmer who knows our name, a fisherman who texts us what came in that morning, and a kitchen team who treat every plate as something worth being proud of.”
Head Chef, The Daffodil Inn
You can see exactly
what goes into it
Our gallery kitchen is open to the dining room — a deliberate choice. When you can see the kitchen, the kitchen has to mean it. There is nowhere to hide, and we would not have it any other way.
Watch the brigade break down a whole Welsh lamb, finish a soufflé or plate up a Sunday roast with the care it deserves. Ask the chefs about what is cooking — they are always happy to talk.
Everything is prepared on the day, from stocks to sauces to desserts. If we run out, we run out — we would rather that than compromise.
We buy whole carcasses where possible. Leg of lamb today, lamb faggots tomorrow. A respectful approach that also means better flavour.
The menu is not printed months in advance. It changes when the produce changes — which, in West Wales, is often.
From our neighbours’ land to your plate
We name our suppliers proudly. The closer the food travels, the fresher it tastes — and the more it means to both of us.

Find your corner of the Daffodil
Whether you are after a quiet table for two, a lively family lunch or a sunny spot on the decking, we have a space that fits. Every room has its own character — and a log burner for when the Welsh weather reminds you what country you are in.
The Bar
The beating heart of the Daffodil. Pull up a stool at the slate-topped bar, study the selection of Welsh ales and ciders on tap, and order a bar snack or the full menu — your call. The bar is a proper, unfussy working pub bar with a friendly face behind it.
The Snug
Tucked away from the main bar, the snug seats up to twelve and is the warmest spot in the building when the log burner gets going. It is the room for a proper conversation — low ceilings, stone walls, and nothing to interrupt your evening except a refill.
The Decking
On a warm Ceredigion afternoon, there is nowhere better than the south-facing decking. Views across the vale, a cold pint of something local in hand, and the full menu available outside. Dog-friendly, family-friendly, and a favourite with cyclists passing through the valley.
The Dining Lounge
The main dining room looks directly into the gallery kitchen, and that is no accident. Settle into a comfortable dining chair, watch the chefs at work, and enjoy a relaxed, unhurried meal. The lounge seats forty covers and is the room for special occasions and long Sunday lunches.

The log burners go on
in October and stay on
West Wales has its own relationship with weather. When the sea fog rolls in off Cardigan Bay or the rain settles in over the Teifi Valley for the afternoon, the Daffodil becomes exactly the kind of place you want to be.
We run three log burners — one in the bar, one in the snug, and one in the lounge — and they earn their keep from October through to April. Stone floors, low beams, and the smell of proper cooking. There are worse places to wait out a Welsh afternoon.
In summer, the decking comes into its own. South-facing, sheltered from the prevailing wind, and with a view down the vale that reminds you why people come to this corner of Wales in the first place.

The food does the talking
“We stopped here after a morning kayaking on the Teifi, soaked and starving. The cawl warmed us straight through, and the sticky toffee pudding was genuinely one of the best I have ever eaten. We are already planning to come back this winter.”
“We brought my father-in-law for his 70th birthday and the team could not have done more for us. They had spoken to us in advance, remembered every detail, and the menu they put together was exceptional. A genuinely special evening.”
