Our Makers

We believe that knowing the maker makes the gift mean more. Every artisan we work with is based in Wales, and we visit each studio personally before stocking their work. These are just a few of the talented people whose hands made what you'll find in our shop.

Tenby, Pembrokeshire

Tenby Pottery Co.

Hand-Thrown Ceramics

Operated from a small studio behind Tudor Square, Tenby Pottery Co. has been throwing pots in this town since 2004. Their glazes are inspired by the Pembrokeshire coast — aqua, sand, and deep sea blues.

Aberaeron Silverworks

Artisan Jewellery

Sioned Hughes works from a converted boathouse, crafting jewellery that references the textures and materials of the Welsh coast. Sea glass, pebbles, and shells are set alongside sterling silver and gold.

Gower Candle Company

Natural Soy Candles

Founded by two friends with a shared obsession with coastal fragrance, Gower Candle Company hand-pours small batches of soy candles using locally-sourced botanicals wherever possible.

Manon Griffiths Studio

Printmaking & Illustration

Manon trained at the Royal Welsh College and returned home to Ceredigion, where she documents the Welsh landscape through linocut and screen-print. Her Tenby series has become one of our most-requested collections.

Slate & Stone Studio

Hand-Carved Slate

Using reclaimed Welsh slate, Gareth Thomas carves plaques, house signs, and decorative pieces in his workshop near Narberth. No two pieces are identical — the stone decides what it wants to become.

Preseli Honey Farm

Artisan Honey & Beeswax

A family-run apiary on the slopes of the Preseli Hills, where the bees forage on heather, gorse, and wildflowers. Raw honey, beeswax candles, and lip balms — all from hives you could walk to.

Loved by Tenby Visitors

This is the only gift shop in Tenby that I bother going into every visit. Everything is genuinely local, thoughtfully chosen, and beautifully displayed. I came in for a postcard and left with a ceramics set and two candles. No regrets whatsoever.

Helen W. Cardiff — visited August 2024

Bought the Manon Griffiths linocut print as a gift and everyone assumed it cost three times what it did. The gift wrapping was exquisite — ribbon, tissue paper, a handwritten card. They really do take care over every detail. Open in winter too, which is a bonus.

David & Sue T. Bristol — visited December 2024

As a Tenby local I always send visitors here first. The owners clearly love what they do — they know the stories behind every product and will happily tell you about the maker. Proper independent retail done right.

A Shop Worth Seeking Out

Tides & Trinkets began as a simple idea: what if a gift shop in Tenby stocked only things that were genuinely worth buying? Things made by real people, in real places, from real materials? In 2009, Catrin and Owen Davies opened our doors on Tudor Square and started finding out.

Fifteen years on, we stock work from over sixty Welsh makers, from studio potters and silversmiths to honey farmers and printmakers. We've never taken a product we didn't believe in, and we've never compromised on quality to stock something cheaper. Tenby's visitors deserve better than that.

We're here all year — not just in the summer season. Because the people who live here, walk on the beach in January, and drive across the Preseli Hills in the rain deserve a good gift shop too. And because the makers we work with deserve consistent support, not just a few months of it.

Local First

Every maker is based in Wales. We visit studios in person before stocking anyone's work.

No Mass Production

Nothing in our shop is factory-made. Every product is handmade, handpoured, or hand-finished.

Open All Year

Unlike most Tenby shops, we're open every month of the year — whatever the weather.

Fairly Priced

We believe handmade gifts should be accessible. We stock items from £6 to £200.

Questions & Answers

Everything you might want to know before visiting. If your question isn't here, just give us a ring.

Are you open all year round, including winter?

Yes, we are. Tides & Trinkets is open every day of the year except Christmas Day and Boxing Day. Our winter hours are slightly shorter (10am–4pm), but we are very much here. Tenby is beautiful in January, and so is our shop.

Is everything in your shop genuinely made in Wales?

Everything we stock as a Welsh product is genuinely made, grown, or crafted in Wales. We visit each maker's studio personally. We do also stock a small selection of wider British artisan goods — primarily cards and stationery — but these are always clearly labelled as such.

Do you offer gift wrapping?

We do, and it's one of our most-complimented features. We wrap everything with tissue paper, ribbon, and a hand-tied bow at no extra charge. We can also write a personalised gift message on a card from our selection — just ask a member of the team when you're at the till.

Can I order online or over the phone?

We are a physical shop — part of our charm is the experience of browsing in person. However, if you've seen something on a previous visit that you'd like to reserve, or if you're buying a gift and can't make it to Tenby, please telephone us and we'll do our best to help. We do take phone orders for local delivery within Tenby and Pembrokeshire.

Do you sell items in bulk for wedding or event favours?

Yes, and this is something we love to help with. We can work with you to choose a selection of Welsh products for wedding favours, corporate gifting, or event hampers. Please contact us well in advance so we can liaise with the relevant makers and ensure stock availability.

I'm a Welsh maker — can I get my products stocked in your shop?

We'd love to hear from you. We take on new makers by introduction and application — please get in touch with a brief description of your work, a few photographs, and your location. We visit studios in person before agreeing to stock anything, so please bear in mind we may need to arrange a visit. We are particularly interested in ceramics, jewellery, and homeware at present.

Is the shop accessible for wheelchairs and pushchairs?

Our shop is on the ground floor with a level entrance directly from Tudor Square. The aisles are designed with space in mind, and all our display shelving is at accessible heights. We have a small step at the rear of the shop, but staff are always on hand to assist. Pushchairs are very welcome.
