Saundersfoot Harbour, Pembrokeshire

Proper Fish & Chips.

Fresh from the sea, fried to perfection

Right on Saundersfoot Harbour. Straight from the boat to the fryer. Hand-cut chips, golden batter, and views of the Welsh coast that never get old. Family-run since 1987 and open every single day of the year.

The Classics, Done Properly

Fresh Fish

Landed daily from Pembrokeshire waters. Cod, haddock, plaice, and whatever the fleet brings in.

Hand-Cut Chips

Proper thick-cut chips from locally sourced potatoes. Fluffy inside, crisp outside. No shortcuts.

Mushy Peas

Slow-cooked and generously portioned. The proper kind — not tinned, made fresh every morning.

Curry Sauce

Our house recipe, the same one for over thirty years. Rich, mild, and utterly addictive.

The Roberts Family & Their Chippy

Three generations have worked the fryers at Harbour Fish & Chips. Mick and Diane Roberts opened the doors in 1987 with a single fryer, a borrowed potato slicer, and a firm belief that good fish needs nothing more than good batter and proper hot fat.

Their son Gareth runs the shop today, with the same recipes and the same insistence on freshness above everything. The fish comes in from the day boats at the harbour — often just yards from your table. The potatoes are sourced from a farm in Narberth. Nothing comes from a depot if we can help it.

We seat forty covers inside, with additional harbour-front seating when the weather allows. Or grab a cone of chips and sit on the harbour wall — that's what most regulars do.

Local Sourcing

Fish landed at Saundersfoot & Tenby. Potatoes from Narberth. Pembrokeshire first.

Traditional Batter

The same recipe since 1987. Simple ingredients, right temperature, perfect crisp.

Eat In & Takeaway

Sit with harbour views, or take it outside to the wall. Both are the right answer.

Open Every Day

Including Christmas Eve, Boxing Day, and every Bank Holiday. Always here.

What Makes the Difference

A Genuine Family Business

Mick started this. His son Gareth runs it now. His daughter Emily is the head fryer. Three generations, one family, the same values. You can taste the difference when people actually care about what they're cooking.

Genuinely Fresh Fish

We buy from the day boats at Saundersfoot and Tenby. The fish on your plate was in the sea that morning. We don't store fish overnight. If we've sold out, we've sold out. That's the deal.

The Same Recipes

Mick's batter recipe. Diane's curry sauce. Nothing has been "optimised" or updated for cost efficiency. If it worked in 1987 and people still queue for it, there is absolutely no reason to change it.

Right on the Harbour

We're not near the harbour. We're on it. Eat inside at a harbour-view table or take your food ten paces outside and sit on the wall. Watch the boats. Smell the salt air. That's Saundersfoot.

Open Every Single Day

Christmas Eve, Boxing Day, Bank Holidays, February in the rain. We are here. The Pembrokeshire coast doesn't take a day off and neither do we. If you're walking the coast path in January, there will be chips waiting.

Good for All the Family

Children's portions, a friendly table, and staff who genuinely like people. Bring the grandparents, bring the toddlers, bring the wet dog if it'll sit outside. Everyone is welcome at Harbour Fish & Chips.

Pembrokeshire in a Cone of Chips

Saundersfoot has always been a working harbour. Coal once left on boats from the quayside. Fishermen still bring lobster in before dawn. The village has held onto something real in a way that's rare. We've tried to do the same.

When Mick Roberts opened the chippy in 1987, Saundersfoot was still largely a local village with some summer visitors. Over the decades it's grown into one of Pembrokeshire's most beloved destinations — but the harbour remains the heart of the place, and we remain right on it.

We've fed generations of the same families. People who came here as children with their parents now bring their own children. Some of them are now bringing grandchildren. That is the thing we are proudest of — not the awards or the reviews, but the habit.

The Pembrokeshire Coast National Park surrounds us. The beaches at Tenby and Barafundle and Broadhaven are a short drive. This is extraordinary country. We think a proper plate of fish and chips at the end of a coastal walk is one of the genuinely great pleasures in life.

Regulars, Visitors & Walkers

We have been feeding Pembrokeshire and its visitors for nearly four decades. Here is what some of them have to say.

Best fish and chips I have had in Wales, and I have had a fair few. The cod was genuinely fresh. The batter has this particular quality to it that I have not found anywhere else. We drove back on day four of our holiday just to have it again.

My family has been coming to Saundersfoot for thirty years and we always end the first day with chips from the harbour chippy. My children are now bringing their own children. That curry sauce is extraordinary.

Walked the coast path from Tenby in January, absolutely frozen. The chippy was open, warm, and brilliant. Mushy peas, chips, and a mug of tea. Brought me back to life. Genuinely special that they keep going through the winter.

Brought my daughter who has a gluten intolerance. They were incredibly knowledgeable about allergens and made sure her meal was prepared safely. The gluten-free batter was genuinely excellent. She was thrilled to have proper fish and chips for the first time in years.

The view alone is worth the visit. Eating fish and chips while looking out over the harbour in the evening is one of those simple experiences that just feels right. Generous portions, proper chips, beautiful fresh fish. We will be back next summer.

Local here. Been going since I was a child. Gareth and the family are good people and they run a proper business. The fish is always fresh, the chips never disappoint, and the prices are fair. There is nothing quite like it anywhere else in Pembrokeshire.
