How a Groom Works

01

Consultation

We discuss what you want for your dog. Breed standard, practical cut, or something specific. Any health issues, anxieties, or preferences are noted before a single tool comes out.

02

Assessment

Your dog's coat condition is assessed. Matting levels, skin condition, and overall health are checked. This determines the approach — no two grooms are identical.

03

Bath & Prep

Thorough bath with shampoo chosen for their specific coat type. Conditioner where needed. Careful drying — high velocity for thick coats, gentle for fine ones.

04

The Groom

Clip, scissor, hand strip, or combination. Nails trimmed, ears cleaned, sanitary areas tidied. Finishing touches and a final check. Ready for collection looking their best.

Puppy Intro

Gentle first experience for pups aged 12+ weeks

Nail Trim Only

Quick standalone service between grooms

Careful removal of mats and tangles where possible

Absolutely brilliant with our nervous rescue. He was terrified of groomers before but now he actually gets excited when we pull up. Cannot recommend enough.

Best groomer we have ever used and we have tried a few. Our cockapoo always comes out looking amazing. The hand stripping on our terrier is spot on too.

Really takes the time to get it right. No rushing, no stress, just a calm professional groom every single time. Both our spaniels are regulars now.

My old boy is thirteen and arthritic. The patience and care shown during his groom is something else. He is always so gentle and takes his time. Top class.

Common Questions

How often should my dog be groomed? +
It depends on the breed and coat type. Most dogs benefit from a professional groom every 6-8 weeks. Curly and long-coated breeds may need more frequent visits. Short-coated breeds can often go longer between full grooms but benefit from regular baths and de-sheds. We will advise on the right schedule for your specific dog.
My dog is nervous around groomers. Can you help? +
Absolutely. Many dogs that visit us are nervous, some are rescues with unknown histories. We work at the dog's pace, take breaks when needed, and use calm, reassuring handling throughout. There is no restraint beyond what is necessary for safety. Most nervous dogs settle within their first few visits when they learn it is a safe, positive experience.
What is hand stripping and does my dog need it? +
Hand stripping is a technique where dead coat is removed by hand rather than clipped. It is the correct grooming method for wire-coated breeds like terriers, schnauzers, and some spaniels. Clipping these breeds softens the coat texture and can alter the colour over time. If your dog has a wire coat and you want to maintain its proper texture, hand stripping is the way to go.
How long will the groom take? +
A bath and tidy typically takes 1-1.5 hours. A full groom is usually 2-3 hours depending on breed, coat condition, and the dog's temperament. Hand stripping can take longer. We never rush. You will receive a call when your dog is ready for collection, or we can arrange a drop-off time.
Do I need to do anything before the appointment? +
A good walk beforehand helps your dog arrive calm and ready to settle. Please let us know about any health issues, medications, skin conditions, or behavioural concerns in advance. Other than that, just bring your dog. We handle the rest.
When can my puppy have their first groom? +
Puppies can have their first introductory groom from around 12 weeks old, once they have had their vaccinations. The first session is kept short and gentle, focusing on getting them used to the sights, sounds, and sensations of the grooming environment. Starting early creates a positive association that lasts their whole life.
