Cardigan Town

A pantry born from a love of Welsh food

Pantri Aberteifi was founded on a simple belief: the finest food in Wales comes from the people who know their land, their animals, and their craft intimately. We set up shop in Cardigan — Aberteifi in Welsh — because this corner of Ceredigion sits at the heart of some of the most extraordinary food production in Britain.

Within a twenty-mile radius of our door, you will find organic dairy farmers, cured-meat artisans, preservers, bakers, and market gardeners who have dedicated their lives to doing one thing brilliantly. Our job is to bring their work together in one place, and to share it with you.

Whether you come in for a single wedge of aged cheddar, a ploughman's lunch in our cafe, or to assemble a hamper for a special occasion, you will find the same attention to provenance and the same warm welcome — in English or in Welsh.

"Bwyd da yw'r rhodd orau — Good food is the finest gift."
Welsh proverb

Provenance First

Every product on our shelves is traceable to a named farm or maker within Wales or the British Isles.

Welsh Welcome

Our team are Welsh speakers. Come in for a chat in whichever language feels like home.

Seasonal Menu

The cafe menu follows the seasons. When asparagus is up, it's on the board. Simple as that.

Made to Order

Cheese boards, gift hampers, and celebration platters assembled fresh to your exact requirements.

Wales on a plate.
Every day.

Our refrigerated counter and dry-goods shelves are stocked fresh each morning with the best of what our producers have made. Come in and ask — we will always let you taste before you buy.

Wales has one of the finest cheese traditions in Britain.

In the decades since the artisan cheese revival began in Wales, a remarkable constellation of small dairies has emerged across Ceredigion, Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire, and the Brecon Beacons. Each has developed a distinct voice — shaped by the grass the cows eat, the water the sheep drink, and the techniques passed down through families.

We taste every cheese we stock. Nothing goes on the counter that we would not serve at our own table. Our cheesemongers are happy to guide you through the board, suggest pairings with our charcuterie and preserves, and cut you exactly the portion you need — whether that is 50g for a snack or 2kg for a wedding table.

Cheese boards made to order. Tell us your occasion, your budget, and how many people you are feeding, and we will assemble a board that showcases the range and quality of Welsh artisan cheese at its best. Collection from the shop or delivery within 15 miles of Cardigan.

Our cafe sits alongside the deli counter, separated only by the aroma of fresh coffee and something warm from the oven. The menu is short by design — everything on it is made in-house or sourced from producers within a tight radius of Cardigan.

We serve light lunches from midday until we run out. Welsh cakes griddled to order. Coffee from a small-batch Welsh roaster. Soup that changes with the week. The sort of food that makes you want to stay a little longer.

The people behind the food

We believe in knowing where your food comes from and who made it. These are some of the producers we are proud to champion — each one a testament to what dedicated, small-scale agriculture can achieve.

Teifi Valley, Ceredigion

Glynhynod Farm

Organic Dairy • Cheese

Third-generation family dairy farming on the banks of the Teifi. Their organic Caws Teifi cheese has been made on the farm since 1982, using traditional Gouda techniques brought back from a cheesemaking apprenticeship in Holland.

Cwm Rheidol, Ceredigion

Nantclyd Bakehouse

Artisan Bread • Pastry

A wood-fired bakehouse tucked into the Rheidol valley. Head baker Rhodri has been working with long-fermentation sourdough for over twelve years, sourcing heritage grain varieties grown in mid-Wales and milling flour on site.

Pembrokeshire Coast

Cawdor Curing Co.

Charcuterie • Smoked Meats

Started by a former chef who spent years working in French charcuteries before returning to Wales. Their dry-cured Welsh lamb and smoked venison bresaola are cured over several months using traditional salt-box methods, with no nitrite preservatives.

Cardigan Bay

Blas y Mor Honey

Raw Honey • Beeswax Products

Sixteen hives positioned along the coastal headlands north of Cardigan, where bees forage on wild thyme, sea holly, and coastal meadow flowers. The honey is minimally filtered, raw, and bottled within two miles of the hives.

Newcastle Emlyn

Afon Teifi Preserves

Jams • Chutneys • Pickles

A small family kitchen producing handmade preserves from fruit and vegetables grown in their own walled garden and from neighbouring smallholdings. Every jar is made in batches of fewer than 100, labelled by hand, and delivered fresh to us.

Brecon Beacons

Bwlch Farm Dairy

Sheep's Milk Cheese • Yoghurt

High on the Beacons plateau, this family dairy runs a flock of Friesland-cross ewes whose rich milk produces exceptional soft cheese and firm pecorino-style rounds. Their labneh, strained overnight and rolled in herbs, sells out within hours of delivery.

All featured producers are within 60 miles of Cardigan. We visit each farm at least once a year. Ask in the shop for their full stories — we never tire of telling them.

A warm welcome for everyone

Cymraeg a Saesneg — Welsh and English spoken here

Cardigan is one of the most Welsh-speaking towns in Wales. More than seventy percent of residents speak Welsh as a first or daily language, and it is the tongue of the market, the pub, the school gate, and the shop counter. Pantri Aberteifi was founded by Welsh speakers and we are delighted to serve you entirely in Welsh if you prefer. Our team will never switch to English unless you ask them to.

We also warmly welcome visitors who do not speak Welsh. No prior knowledge is required to enjoy excellent cheese, a good coffee, and the particular atmosphere of a town that has retained its language and its character against the odds. We hope you will find us approachable, unhurried, and genuinely glad to see you.

Eating with the seasons in West Wales

Our menus and shelves shift with the calendar. Here is a taste of what to expect when you visit at different times of the year.

Spring

Wild Garlic & New Season Lamb

March to May brings wild garlic from the hedgerows around the Teifi, new season lamb from the upland farms, and the first asparagus from Pembrokeshire. Our spring ploughman's features a fresh, mild cheese and ramp chutney.

Summer

Strawberries, Honey & Cold Plates

June through August: Welsh strawberries and raspberries arrive from market gardens near Cardigan Bay, the bees are working hard on the coastal headlands, and our cold lunch plates of charcuterie, cured fish, and dressed leaves are perfect for warm afternoons.

Autumn

Damson, Apple & Aged Cheese

September and October are our favourite months for cheese pairings. Damson cheese, hedgerow jellies, spiced apple chutney, and sloe gin from the Teifi valley all arrive in quick succession. The cafe soup shifts to roasted squash and celeriac.

Winter

Hampers, Celebration Boards & Slow Mornings

From November through January the shop fills with gift hampers, Christmas cheese boards, and visitors lingering over coffee and Welsh cakes by the window. Our winter hampers make exceptional gifts — assembled to order with your choice of producers.

Visitors and regulars alike

The best cheese counter I have encountered outside of London, and arguably better than most of those. The Hafod cheddar alone is worth the drive from anywhere in Wales. The staff know every producer personally and it shows in how enthusiastically they talk about the food.

Eleanor P.
Cardiff

Roeddwn i wrth fy modd. Mae'r staff yn gwbl groesawgar yn Gymraeg, a'r bwyd yn ardderchog. Y ploughman's oedd y gorau erioed — tair caws Cymreig, bara cartref, a phicl cartref. Byddaf yn dychwelyd bob tro yr af i Aberteifi.

Dafydd M.
Aberystwyth

We stopped in on a cycling holiday and ended up spending two hours over lunch. The Welsh cakes are griddled fresh and served warm — something I had not experienced before. We left with an enormous bag of cheese, honey, and preserves that somehow survived the rest of the trip home to Somerset.

Kate & Simon R.
Bristol

The finest of Wales, beautifully packaged.

Our gift hampers are assembled by hand in the shop, using produce chosen from the same counter you see when you visit. There is no central warehouse, no bulk-bought filler product, no compromises on quality. Every hamper is exactly what we would want to receive ourselves.

We offer a standard selection of hamper tiers, but the most popular option by far is our bespoke service: tell us who the hamper is for, what they enjoy, and your budget, and we will make something personal. Hampers can be collected in-store or delivered locally. For postal delivery across the UK, we work with a small courier specialising in chilled food.

Pantri Classic — £45
Two cheeses, charcuterie, chutney, honey, crackers, and a seasonal treat.
Ffermwr's Hamper — £75
Four cheeses, full charcuterie selection, three preserves, bread, coffee, honey, and Welsh cakes.

Entirely made to your specification. Speak to us in the shop or telephone to discuss.
