Adventure Centre

Outer Reef Surf School was born from a simple conviction: Pembrokeshire's coastline is one of the most extraordinary stretches of ocean in the British Isles, and everyone deserves to experience it properly.

Since 1999, we have been guiding surfers, paddlers, coasteerers and kayakers across the wild, beautiful beaches of Pembrokeshire. What began as a small operation from Tenby North Beach has grown into the county's most trusted multi-activity adventure provider — but our values have never changed.

Every one of our instructors holds an International Surfing Association (ISA) qualification, and many hold additional specialist certifications in coasteering, water safety, and first aid. We are proud to operate as an official National Trust partner, meaning all our activities are conducted with the utmost respect for the remarkable landscapes and habitats that make Pembrokeshire so special.

Surfing

Surf Lessons

Pembrokeshire's Atlantic-facing beaches produce some of the finest surf conditions in Britain. Our ISA-qualified surf coaches deliver structured lessons for all levels — from your very first pop-up to perfecting your cutback. We operate primarily from Freshwater West, one of Wales' most celebrated surf beaches, as well as Tenby North Beach for calmer conditions ideal for younger or less confident beginners.

Every session includes a comprehensive shore-based briefing, warm-up, ocean safety instruction, and in-water coaching from your dedicated instructor. All wetsuits, boards, and safety equipment are provided — simply turn up ready to get wet.

Coasteering

Coasteering

Coasteering is the ultimate Pembrokeshire adventure — traversing the rugged coastline by swimming, climbing, jumping and scrambling across the dramatic sea cliffs and rock formations that have been sculpted by millennia of Atlantic waves. It is exhilarating, empowering, and utterly unique to the Pembrokeshire coast.

Our coasteering routes explore some of the most spectacular and secluded sections of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, accessible only by sea. Your guides are trained in coastal leadership and marine rescue, ensuring the experience is as safe as it is thrilling. All buoyancy aids, helmets, and wetsuits are supplied.

Sea Kayaking

Sea Kayaking

Explore Pembrokeshire's breathtaking sea caves, hidden coves, and limestone arches from the perfect vantage point — the water's surface. Sea kayaking is one of the most meditative and rewarding ways to experience this coastline, and our sessions are available for complete beginners and experienced paddlers alike.

Our introductory half-day sessions begin with flat-water paddle skills before venturing along the coast to discover geological wonders and abundant marine wildlife including grey seals, dolphins, and seabirds. Full-day expeditions are available for those who want to cover more ground. All kayaks, paddles, and safety equipment are provided.

SUP

Stand-Up Paddleboarding

Stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) has rapidly become one of Pembrokeshire's most popular water activities, and it's easy to see why. Combining core balance with gentle paddling technique, SUP offers a sublime full-body workout alongside some of the most gorgeous coastal scenery in Britain.

We offer SUP sessions for beginners through to improvers, available on the calmer waters of Saundersfoot Harbour and Tenby North Beach, as well as flat-water sessions on the estuary. Our SUP yoga sessions (seasonal) are particularly popular — balancing asanas on the water with Pembrokeshire cliffs as your backdrop is an experience like no other.

Our founding location and primary base of operations. Tenby North Beach is a magnificent sweeping bay sheltered enough for absolute beginners yet with sufficient swell on the right days to excite intermediate surfers. The beach is accessible, family-friendly, and set against the backdrop of Tenby's iconic pastel-coloured town and medieval walls. It is the ideal starting point for anyone new to ocean sports.

Facilities include local car parking, public amenities, and a short walk to the town centre for post-session refreshments.

Freshwater West is Pembrokeshire's jewel — a vast, untamed Atlantic beach that receives consistent swell and is widely regarded as Wales' finest surf spot. Unmistakable for its dramatic dunes, total lack of commercial development, and the raw power of its breaking waves, it has featured in several major films and attracts surfers from across Europe.

As a National Trust partner, we operate at Freshwater West with the highest environmental standards, ensuring this special place is protected for generations to come. This is our location of choice for intermediate and advanced surf sessions, and for our most dramatic coasteering routes.

Saundersfoot's sheltered harbour and gentle sandy beach offer ideal conditions for flatwater paddling sports. The calm, protected waters make this our preferred location for SUP introductions, family kayaking sessions, and younger participants experiencing ocean sports for the first time. The village itself is one of Pembrokeshire's most charming seaside destinations.

Our Saundersfoot sessions typically incorporate harbour exploration and coastal paddling along the beach to the north, offering spectacular views of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park from the water.
