The Oak Room
The principal bedroom on the first floor, overlooking the garden and valley beyond. A king-size bed dressed in luxury linen, with exposed beams overhead and a stone feature wall.
A beautifully restored stone cottage nestled in the Pembrokeshire countryside — where log fires burn, mornings are unhurried, and the coast is always close.
Tucked beneath a centuries-old oak on the edge of a quiet Pembrokeshire lane, Oak Tree Cottage is the kind of place you arrive at frazzled and leave from reluctantly.
The cottage has been thoughtfully restored to retain its original stone walls, low beams and flagstone floors, whilst adding every modern comfort you could want for a proper holiday. A log burner crackles in the sitting room, the kitchen is genuinely well-stocked, and the enclosed rear garden gives children and dogs room to roam freely.
Pembrokeshire's National Park coastline — all sea-stacks, cliff arches and turquoise bays — is reachable in under 20 minutes. The ancient Preseli Hills, where the Stonehenge bluestones were quarried, rise gently to the north. Market towns, farm shops and excellent pubs are all within easy reach.
We have thought carefully about what makes a truly comfortable rural holiday. Here is what sets Oak Tree Cottage apart.
Thick stone walls, exposed oak beams and original flagstone floors give the cottage an authentic Welsh character that no new-build can replicate. The building dates to the early 1800s.
A fully enclosed south-facing garden with patio furniture, a barbecue and lawn area. Safe for young children and dogs. Wild-flower borders and the namesake oak provide summer shade and autumn colour.
The property sits in a private lane with no passing traffic. Secure key-safe access means you can arrive at any time. A dedicated off-road car park takes two vehicles comfortably.
Dogs are genuinely welcome — not merely tolerated. We provide dog bowls, towels for muddy paws, a dog bed and a list of local dog-friendly pubs, beaches and walks. A small additional pet fee applies.
A proper cook's kitchen with a range cooker, full-size fridge-freezer, dishwasher and every appliance and utensil you might need. Starter provisions of milk, tea, coffee and biscuits are provided.
Fast fibre broadband keeps you connected when you want to be, and frees you to disconnect when you do not. All areas of the cottage and garden are covered. Smart TV with streaming services included.
Everything listed below is included in your rental — no hidden extras, no surprises on arrival.
Three comfortable bedrooms sleeping up to six guests in total. All beds are made up with freshly laundered hotel-quality linen on arrival.
The principal bedroom on the first floor, overlooking the garden and valley beyond. A king-size bed dressed in luxury linen, with exposed beams overhead and a stone feature wall.
A flexible twin room on the first floor. The two single beds can be pushed together to form a super-king, making this room equally suited to adults or children. Northerly aspect with hill views.
A cosy ground-floor double room adjacent to the downstairs shower room — ideal for guests who prefer to avoid stairs. Exposed stone walls and a low beamed ceiling give it a characterful, cave-like cosiness.

Pembrokeshire: where the landscape is the entertainment.
Oak Tree Cottage is positioned in the quiet rural heartland of north Pembrokeshire — close enough to the coast and market towns for day trips, remote enough to feel genuinely away from it all.
The nearest village is a short drive for essentials. Fishguard and Newport (Pembs) provide restaurants, shops and pubs. The Pembrokeshire Coast National Park boundary is just a few minutes away.
Exact address and GPS coordinates are provided upon booking confirmation. The cottage is accessed via a quiet lane — postcode navigation is reliable.
From wild swimming to castle ruins — Pembrokeshire offers more than enough to fill a fortnight, let alone a week.
The Pembrokeshire Coast Path runs 186 miles of dramatic clifftop scenery. Day sections from Poppit Sands to Newport are particularly spectacular.
Barafundle Bay, Broad Haven and Pwll Gwaelod are among Wales' finest beaches for wild swimming — crystal water, minimal crowds (in shoulder season).
Walk the ancient hills that furnished Stonehenge with its bluestones. Iron Age hill forts, prehistoric standing stones and wild moorland all within a few miles of the cottage.
Cardigan Bay is home to dolphins, porpoises and seals year-round. Hire sea kayaks from Fishguard or Cardigan for guided coastal wildlife tours.
Quiet country lanes and off-road bridleways make for excellent cycling. Afan Forest Park and the Cambrian Way are within a day's drive for more ambitious riders.
Newport Castle ruins, Cardigan Castle, Nevern with its bleeding yew and Pentre Ifan burial chamber are all close by. History is buried in every field.
Pembrokeshire is excellent food country. Farm shops, artisan bakeries, seafood shacks and award-winning gastropubs are all within easy reach. Try the crab from the Teifi estuary.
One of Wales' least light-polluted corners. On a clear night the Milky Way is visible with the naked eye from the cottage garden. Bring a blanket and a flask of something warming.

We let our guests do the talking. Here is a small selection of recent reviews.
"Absolutely wonderful. The cottage is even better than the photographs suggest — proper stone walls, a roaring log burner and a kitchen that actually had everything we needed. We walked from Poppit Sands to Newport on the coastal path and came back to a proper home-cooked dinner. Will definitely return."
"This was our third stay at Oak Tree Cottage — says everything really. Pembrokeshire in October is spectacular: empty beaches, dramatic skies, pub fires going. We took the dogs on the coastal path for three days running. The owners are lovely and nothing is too much trouble."
"We brought our three children (ages 4, 7 and 9) for a week in the summer. The enclosed garden was invaluable — children could run around safely. The welcome pack was a lovely touch. We spotted dolphins near Fishguard on a kayaking trip. Genuinely the best family holiday we have had."
Everything you need to know before you book.
If your question is not answered here, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
Genuinely yes — this is not a reluctant allowance. We provide dog bowls, a dog bed, towels for muddy paws after walks and a guide to local dog-friendly pubs and beaches. The garden is fully enclosed and escape-proof for most breeds. We ask only that dogs are not allowed on the upstairs beds, and that you clean up after them in the garden. A supplement of £30 per dog applies, capped at two dogs.
Yes. Public footpaths and bridleways run directly from the lane outside the cottage into the surrounding countryside. You can walk to the Preseli Hills or access circular routes through farmland and woodland without driving anywhere. For the coastal path, a short drive to Poppit Sands, Newport or Fishguard is necessary, all of which are well under 20 minutes.
We have full fibre broadband with speeds typically around 80–100 Mbps download. Coverage extends throughout the cottage and to the main garden seating area. Several guests have used Oak Tree Cottage as a work-from-somewhere base during shoulder season and have found it more than adequate for video calls, file uploads and general remote work.
The ground floor comprises the sitting room, kitchen/diner, Bedroom 3 (the Hazel Room — a double) and a fully equipped shower room with WC. A guest requiring single-floor living can be fully catered for at Oak Tree Cottage. The property has a level entrance with a small step at the door. Please contact us to discuss specific requirements and we will do our best to assist.
A small convenience shop is about 2 miles away for essentials. Newport (Pembrokeshire) has independent shops, a butcher and a deli approximately 5 miles distant. For a full supermarket (Tesco, Lidl, Co-op), Cardigan and Fishguard are roughly 10–11 miles in either direction. We recommend doing a main shop before you arrive or on your way through — thereafter, farm shops and local delis are part of the fun.
Yes, and the cottage is particularly lovely in winter. The log burner makes it a genuinely cosy retreat, and the Pembrokeshire coast is dramatically beautiful in December and January. Christmas and New Year weeks are available at the standard low-season rate, with a minimum 5-night stay. These dates book well in advance — contact us as early as possible.
A booking deposit of 30% of the total rental price is required to confirm your reservation. The balance is due 8 weeks before arrival. A separate refundable damage deposit of £200 is taken shortly before arrival and returned within 7 days of departure, subject to the property being left in good order. We accept payment by bank transfer.
We take bookings directly — no agency fees, no third-party complications. Simply send us your preferred dates and party size and we will come back to you promptly with availability and an exact quote.
We aim to respond to all enquiries within 24 hours, usually much sooner. During peak season (July–August) we recommend enquiring as early as possible as the cottage books up quickly.
