Born from a love of
West Wales

Mantle Brewery was founded in 2013 by a family with a deep love for West Wales and a passion for brewing ale of genuine character and quality.

Tucked away in the heart of Cardigan at the Pentood Industrial Estate, our small brewery has grown from a dream into one of Ceredigion's most cherished craft producers. Every batch we brew carries with it the spirit of the landscape that surrounds us — the rugged Pembrokeshire coastline, the ancient oak woodlands, and the rolling hills of the Teifi Valley.

We believe that great ale comes from great ingredients, careful process, and genuine care. We source the finest malts and hops, working with traditional techniques while embracing the creativity of modern craft brewing. The result is a range of ales that are honest, approachable, and full of character.

As a family business, we pour ourselves into every barrel. When you drink a Mantle ale, you are tasting years of passion, craft, and an uncompromising commitment to quality that no larger operation could ever replicate.

How We Brew

Every batch begins with quality ingredients and ends with a commitment that will not waver: if it is not right, it does not leave the brewery.

Milling

Whole malted barley grains are carefully milled to crack the husk and expose the starchy endosperm, preparing them for mashing.

Mashing

The milled grain meets hot water in the mash tun. Enzymes break starches down into fermentable sugars, creating sweet wort.

Boiling

Wort is boiled in the copper kettle. Hops are added at carefully timed intervals for bitterness, flavour, and aroma.

Fermentation

Yeast is pitched into cooled wort. Over several days it transforms sugars into alcohol and CO2, developing character and complexity.

Conditioning

The green beer conditions, clarifies, and matures. Time is not rushed. Then it is racked to cask or bottle, ready for you.

Premium Malts

We source a variety of malted barleys, from pale base malts to crystal, chocolate, and roasted varieties. The backbone of every great ale.

Whole Hops

From classic English varieties like Fuggles and Goldings to aromatic New World hops, we choose each variety for its individual contribution to bitterness, flavour, and aroma.

Brewing Yeast

Yeast is where much of the magic happens. We maintain our own house strains, each producing distinct esters and flavour compounds that define the character of our ales.

Welsh Water

The soft, clean water flowing through Ceredigion gives our ales their distinctive softness and clarity. Great water makes great beer, and we are fortunate to have some of the finest in Britain.
