A Village Hotel with a Warm Welsh Heart

The Llanina Arms Hotel sits at the quiet centre of New Quay — one of the most cherished fishing villages on the Ceredigion coast. This is a place where time moves a little slower, where the smell of the sea drifts in through open windows, and where a proper pub lunch is still a proper pub lunch.

We have been welcoming guests, walkers, holidaymakers, and locals for many years. The hotel is family-run, rooted in the community, and proud of it. You will find no corporate script here — just genuine hospitality, good food, and a willingness to share local knowledge with anyone who asks.

Whether you are here for a long weekend exploring the Ceredigion Heritage Coast, a summer escape with the family dog, or simply following the footsteps of the village's most famous literary visitor, Dylan Thomas, the Llanina Arms is your home from home.

Good Honest Food, Every Day

Our kitchen is built around the belief that the best meals come from good ingredients, treated with care and cooked from scratch. You will not find anything frozen or reheated here. Every dish that comes out of our kitchen was started that morning.

We draw on the extraordinary larder that West Wales provides. Local lamb from the farms above the valley. Fish and seafood landed just down the hill at New Quay harbour. Welsh cheeses, Welsh butter, and vegetables from the market at Cardigan. The menu changes with the seasons and with what is best that week.

Lunch is served daily, and our evening menu offers heartier fare — the kind that earns its place alongside a pint of real ale or a glass of something from our wine selection. We also do a full Welsh breakfast in the morning that has been known to make guests miss their morning plans entirely.

Menu changes seasonally. Allergen information available on request. Please advise of any dietary requirements when booking.

Real Ales Worth Crossing Wales For

We take our ales seriously. Our bar carries a rotating selection of real ales from Welsh breweries, served in proper condition at the right temperature. Pull up a stool and let us talk you through what’s on.

Teifi Pale
Mantle Brewery, Cardigan

A golden, sessionable pale ale with citrus notes on the nose and a clean, refreshing finish. Brewed just up the road.

3.7% ABV
Cwrw Llyn
Purple Moose, Porthmadog

A rich, amber bitter with a complex malt backbone, hints of toffee, and earthy hops that linger long after the last sip.

4.2% ABV
Cardi Gold
Ceredigion Brewery

Our house favourite. A bright, sparkling golden ale with floral and light fruit aromas and a crisp, satisfying finish.

4.0% ABV
Dark & Stormy
Tiny Rebel, Newport

A robust dark mild with roasted malts, hints of dark chocolate and coffee, and a smooth, warming finish. Perfect for cooler evenings.

4.6% ABV

Our ale selection rotates regularly to showcase the best of Welsh brewing. Ask at the bar to find out what we have on today. We also stock a range of Welsh spirits, wines, and soft drinks.

Drink in the View

On a fine day, our south-facing beer garden is about as good as life gets. The kind of place where a single pint quietly becomes the whole afternoon.

Book a Table Outside

South-Facing Aspect

The garden catches the afternoon sun beautifully. On warm summer days, tables fill quickly — it is always worth arriving early. Parasols provided when the sun decides to cooperate fully.

Cardigan Bay Views

On a clear day you can see across the rooftops to the shimmer of Cardigan Bay. A fine vantage point for watching the weather roll in off the Atlantic. The views are free of charge with every pint.

Dogs Welcome Outside

Dogs are completely at home in the beer garden. There is fresh water always available, a shaded corner for warmer days, and the staff know most regulars’ dogs by name.

Garden Food Menu

The full bar menu is available outside during opening hours. From bar snacks and sandwiches at lunch, to our full evening menu on warm summer nights. No need to go inside unless you want to.

  • Bar snacks and sandwiches
  • Sharing boards on request
  • Full evening menu in summer
  • Real ales and draught lager outside

Private Events & Gatherings

The beer garden can be reserved for private gatherings during quieter periods. Birthday parties, family reunions, post-walk celebrations, or simply an occasion that deserves a fine outdoor setting with a sea view to match.

New Quay and the Wonders of Cardigan Bay

The Llanina Arms sits in the heart of New Quay village, just a few minutes’ walk from the harbour, the beach, and the famous dolphin-watching vantage points on the headland. New Quay is home to one of the most accessible and reliable bottlenose dolphin populations in northern Europe.

The Cardigan Bay Special Area of Conservation protects the resident pod of over 300 bottlenose dolphins that patrol these waters year-round. You can often spot them from the cliffs and pier without any equipment at all. Boat trips run regularly from the harbour throughout the summer season.

Beyond the dolphins, the Ceredigion Heritage Coast offers extraordinary walking, the Wales Coast Path running right through the village, hidden coves accessible only on foot, and the extraordinary light that has drawn artists and writers to this coastline for generations.

New Quay Beach & Harbour Sandy beach and working harbour — 3 minutes’ walk from the hotel
Cardigan Bay Dolphin Watching Resident bottlenose dolphins visible from the headland year-round
Wales Coast Path The long-distance coastal path runs directly through New Quay village
Dylan Thomas Country The poet lived nearby and is said to have used New Quay as inspiration for Llareggub in Under Milk Wood
Aberaeron Town The pretty Georgian harbour town, famous for its Honey Ice Cream — 7 miles to the south
Ceredigion Heritage Coast Designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with dramatic cliffs and hidden coves

Your Dog is Welcome Here. Genuinely.

We do not merely tolerate dogs. We actively enjoy having them. The Llanina Arms is a proper dog-friendly hotel, which means dogs are welcome in all our public areas — the bar, the beer garden, the dining room, and in the rooms themselves.

New Quay and the surrounding coast is an exceptional destination with a dog in tow. Miles of beach, cliff paths, and woodland trails are accessible on foot from the hotel, and New Quay beach allows dogs year-round on significant sections of sand. Your dog will sleep extremely well after a week here. So will you.

Honest Words from Happy Visitors

We have been coming to the Llanina Arms for seven years and it never disappoints. The food is outstanding — proper Welsh cooking, not the sort of thing you get at chain pubs. The room was spotless and the view on a clear morning is something you do not forget quickly.

James & Helen, Bristol
Tripadvisor, August 2024

Brought our two spaniels and both were made enormously fuss of by the staff. The landlord himself suggested a walk we would never have found on our own that took us past the most extraordinary stretch of coastline. Dog-friendly is an understatement — they genuinely love dogs here.

Sarah, Cheshire
Google Reviews, June 2024

Sat in the beer garden on our last evening with a pint of Cardi Gold watching the sun go down over the bay. We had spotted dolphins from the headland that afternoon. There are worse ways to spend a Tuesday. We booked again before we left the car park.
