Things to See and Do

Pembrokeshire is one of the most spectacular corners of Wales, boasting a stunning National Park, medieval castles, world-class beaches, and some of the finest coastal walking in Britain. Here are some of our favourite places.

Pembroke Castle
10 minutes by car

Pembroke Castle

One of the finest medieval fortresses in Wales and birthplace of Henry VII, Pembroke Castle dominates the town from its rocky promontory. Explore the great round tower, the underground cavern, and enjoy sweeping views over the Pembroke River. An essential visit for history lovers of all ages.

Tenby
20 minutes by car

Tenby

The jewel of the Pembrokeshire coast, Tenby is a colourful walled medieval town perched on a headland above four gorgeous sandy beaches. Wander the medieval walls, browse independent shops and galleries, enjoy fresh seafood in harbour restaurants, or simply sit on the beach and watch the boats head out to Caldey Island.

Pembrokeshire Coast Path
15 minutes by car

Pembrokeshire Coast National Park

The only coastal National Park in Britain, covering 240 square miles of dramatic cliffs, hidden coves, estuaries, and islands. The famous Pembrokeshire Coast Path stretches 186 miles around the peninsula, offering everything from gentle family strolls to challenging clifftop walks with spectacular sea views.

Barafundle Bay
25 minutes by car

Barafundle Bay

Frequently voted one of the finest beaches in Britain, Barafundle is only accessible on foot via the coast path. The effort is well rewarded: crystal-clear turquoise water, powder-white sand framed by golden limestone cliffs, and no cars or commercial development. A genuine hidden gem of the Pembrokeshire coast.

Carew Castle
15 minutes by car

Carew Castle & Tidal Mill

A striking ruined castle reflected in the millpond, Carew offers a remarkable slice of Welsh history spanning Arthurian legend, Tudor splendour, and Cromwellian conflict. The adjacent tidal mill is one of only four remaining in Wales and offers a fascinating glimpse into medieval industrial history. The circular walk around the millpond is a delight for all the family.

St Davids
35 minutes by car

St Davids

Britain's smallest city, named in honour of the patron saint of Wales, St Davids punches far above its weight. The magnificent 12th-century cathedral, tucked into a hollow to hide it from Viking raiders, is one of the most atmospheric religious buildings in Britain. Combine with nearby Whitesands Bay and the wild St Davids Head peninsula for a superb day out.

Honest Reviews from Real Guests

Excellent Based on 200+ guest reviews across Booking.com and TripAdvisor

"We stayed the night before catching the early Stena Line ferry to Rosslare and Lakeland House was absolutely perfect. The hosts offered breakfast at 5:30am without any fuss. The room was immaculate, the bed was wonderfully comfortable, and the breakfast was genuinely one of the best we have had anywhere. Cannot recommend highly enough."

Sarah T.
Travelling to Ireland — Booking.com

"A proper old-fashioned B&B in the very best sense. Spotlessly clean, genuinely friendly hosts who actually care about their guests, and a cooked breakfast that sets you up for the whole day. We spent four days exploring Pembrokeshire using Lakeland House as our base and it was ideal. The hosts' local knowledge was invaluable — we found beaches and walking routes we would never have discovered on our own."

David & Margaret H.
Holiday in Pembrokeshire — TripAdvisor

"I travel through Pembroke Dock three or four times a year for the ferry and Lakeland House has become my first choice every time. The room is always immaculate, check-in is relaxed and flexible, and the breakfast is outstanding. The Welsh laverbread and cockles are a genuine treat. Worth every penny and significantly better than the chain hotels in town that charge twice the price."

James R.
Regular guest — Booking.com

"Brought the whole family for a week in Pembrokeshire. The family room was very generous in size and the children loved the huge breakfast. The hosts were brilliant with the kids and gave us the most wonderful tips for family-friendly beaches and activities. We will absolutely be back next summer."

The Williams Family
Family holiday — TripAdvisor

"I specifically looked for a veggie-friendly B&B in the area and Lakeland House went above and beyond. The hosts sourced extra vegetarian options and served me a superb full veggie Welsh breakfast. The room was lovely, the bed heavenly, and I slept far better than I do at home. A perfect base for walking the coast path."

Clare M.
Coast path walking — Booking.com

"Drove down from Birmingham for a long weekend and this place made the whole trip. Arrived late, no fuss at all from the hosts. Room was excellent. Breakfast next morning was tremendous. Good conversation over the meal as well, which you rarely get at hotels. They clearly love what they do and it shows in every detail. Highly recommended."
