Your First Appointment
What to expect at JW Physio Clinic
1
Thorough Assessment
We begin with a full history of your condition, including how it started, what aggravates or eases it, and how it affects your daily life and activities.
2
Physical Examination
A hands-on clinical examination to identify the source and nature of your problem. This may include movement, strength, flexibility, and neurological testing.
3
Diagnosis & Explanation
We explain our findings in plain language and give you a clear understanding of your condition, what is causing it, and what can be done.
4
Treatment Plan
A personalised treatment plan is agreed with you, including realistic goals, estimated timescales, and what you can do between sessions to aid recovery.
5
Initial Treatment
In most cases, treatment begins in the first appointment. This may include manual therapy, exercise prescription, or education and advice.

How We Treat You

Effective physiotherapy is more than just hands-on treatment. It requires a thorough clinical process, clear communication, and a genuine partnership between therapist and patient.

01
Comprehensive Assessment
Every patient receives a full subjective and objective assessment. We take the time to understand your history, lifestyle, goals, and concerns before recommending any course of treatment.
02
Individualised Treatment
Treatment is never a one-size-fits-all approach. We draw on a range of evidence-based techniques — manual therapy, therapeutic exercise, dry needling, and education — selected specifically for your needs.
03
Active Rehabilitation
We believe in empowering patients through active rehabilitation. Exercise prescription and self-management strategies form a core part of your recovery, reducing long-term dependence on passive treatment.
04
Progress Monitoring
We track your progress at every session, reviewing and adjusting your treatment plan as you improve. Regular objective reassessment ensures treatment remains appropriate and effective.
05
Discharge & Prevention
When your goals are met, we provide a clear discharge plan and long-term maintenance advice to help you stay well and reduce the risk of recurrence.
Manual Therapy Techniques
Hands-on treatment to restore movement, reduce pain, and improve function. Techniques include soft tissue mobilisation, joint mobilisation and manipulation, myofascial release, and deep tissue massage.
  • Joint mobilisation
  • Soft tissue release
  • Myofascial techniques
  • Neural mobilisation
Exercise Prescription
Tailored exercise programmes designed to strengthen, stabilise, and restore movement. All programmes are progressive and appropriate for your current level of fitness and function.
  • Strength and conditioning
  • Neuromuscular control
  • Flexibility and mobility
  • Functional movement retraining
Pain Education
Understanding pain is central to managing it. We use modern pain science education to help patients make sense of their experience and regain confidence in movement — a key component of chronic pain rehabilitation.
Dry Needling / Acupuncture
Western medical acupuncture and trigger point dry needling can be used as an adjunct to physiotherapy to help reduce pain and muscle tension, improving the effectiveness of subsequent rehabilitation.

Women's Health Physiotherapy

Women's health physiotherapy addresses a range of conditions specific to female anatomy and function. Many women experience symptoms such as pelvic floor weakness, bladder problems, or pelvic pain but are unaware that physiotherapy can provide effective, lasting relief.

Our women's health service is delivered sensitively and professionally in a private, comfortable setting. We understand that these conditions can feel difficult to discuss, and we aim to create a safe, judgement-free environment from the moment you arrive.

Pelvic floor rehabilitation Antenatal physiotherapy Postnatal recovery Pelvic girdle pain Urinary incontinence Prolapse management Diastasis recti Menopause — joint & muscle health Post-gynaecological surgery rehab

Many women are told that leaking, pelvic pain, or discomfort after childbirth is simply "normal". It is common — but it is absolutely not something you have to live with. Physiotherapy can make a significant difference, and you deserve to feel well in your body.

JW Physio Clinic — Women's Health Physiotherapy
Please note

Internal pelvic floor assessment and treatment is available but entirely optional and only undertaken with your informed consent. A full explanation of what is involved will be provided before any such examination, and you are free to decline at any stage.

What Our Patients Say

We are proud of the outcomes we achieve with our patients. Here is what some of them have shared about their experience at JW Physio Clinic.

"After months of struggling with a painful shoulder that was affecting my sleep and my work, I finally got myself referred. The assessment was incredibly thorough — more so than anything I had experienced on the NHS. Within four sessions I was back to full mobility. Cannot recommend highly enough."

R. Hughes
Rotator cuff injury — Haverfordwest

"I was referred for pelvic floor physiotherapy after my second baby. I was embarrassed at first but the whole experience was handled with such sensitivity and professionalism that I was immediately put at ease. The difference after six sessions has been life-changing. I only wish I had come sooner."

S. Williams
Women's health — Pembroke Dock

"As a keen trail runner I have had various physio treatments over the years, but this was a different level. The biomechanical assessment identified issues I had no idea were contributing to my recurring shin splints. I am now back running and have been pain-free for over a year."

T. Jones
Sports rehabilitation — Tenby

"Following my total knee replacement I needed intensive physiotherapy and was worried about travelling to a clinic. The home visit service was perfect. Treatment was thorough, progress was excellent, and the convenience meant I could focus entirely on recovery rather than stressing about getting to appointments."

G. Morgan
Post-surgery home visits — Narberth

"I have lived with fibromyalgia for years and tried many different approaches. The pain education component of my treatment here genuinely changed my relationship with pain. I understand it better now, I manage flare-ups far more effectively, and I feel more in control of my life than I have in a long time."

L. Price
Chronic pain management — Milford Haven

"My GP could not fit me in for three weeks and I was in agony with acute back pain. I called JW Physio Clinic and was seen within two days. The treatment started working almost immediately. By session three I was back at work. Worth every penny — I have referred my whole family since."

D. Collins
Acute back pain — Fishguard

Frequently Asked Questions

Not sure what to expect, or whether physiotherapy is right for your condition? Here are answers to the questions we hear most often.

No. As a chartered physiotherapist, we are a first-contact practitioner. You can self-refer directly without seeing your GP first. Some insurance policies do require a GP referral, so please check your policy if you are claiming through health insurance.
This varies considerably depending on your condition, how long you have had it, your general health, and how you respond to treatment. As a general guide, acute conditions typically respond within 3–6 sessions, while chronic or post-surgical conditions may require more. We will give you our honest estimate after your initial assessment.
Loose, comfortable clothing is ideal. If you are attending for a lower limb problem, shorts are helpful. For shoulder or upper back issues, a vest top or sleeveless shirt makes access easier. We have a private changing area available if needed.
Physiotherapy should not be excessively painful. Some manual therapy techniques may cause mild discomfort in a tender area, and therapeutic exercise may produce muscle soreness — this is normal and expected. We work within your tolerance at all times and will always explain what we are doing and why. Please let us know if anything is uncomfortable.
Yes. We work with all major health insurance providers including Bupa, AXA Health, Aviva, Vitality, and others. Please contact your insurer before your appointment to confirm coverage and obtain an authorisation number. You are responsible for ensuring your claim is valid — we recommend contacting your insurer before booking.
We cover Pembrokeshire and surrounding areas of West Wales for home visits, including Haverfordwest, Tenby, Pembroke, Pembroke Dock, Milford Haven, Fishguard, Narberth, St Davids, and nearby villages. If you are unsure whether we cover your area, please call us and we will do our best to accommodate you. A travel supplement applies for longer distances.
Yes, though the goals are often slightly different to those for acute injuries. With chronic pain, we focus on improving function, building resilience, and helping you develop self-management skills. Pain education, graded activity, and cognitive-behavioural approaches to pain are all part of our toolkit. Many patients with long-standing pain see significant improvements in their quality of life.
The Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) is the statutory regulator for physiotherapists in the UK. Registration is a legal requirement to practise as a physiotherapist. It means your therapist has met nationally set standards of proficiency, training, and conduct, and is subject to disciplinary procedures if those standards are not maintained. Always check your therapist is HCPC registered.
