What We Offer

Professional Grooming Services

From a thorough full groom to a quick nail trim, every service is carried out with patience, skill, and genuine care for your dog’s comfort.

Hand Stripping

The traditional technique for wire-coated and rough-coated breeds. Hand stripping removes dead coat by hand rather than clipping, preserving the correct texture, colour, and weather-resistant properties of the coat. Essential for many terrier and spaniel breeds.

Specialist Skill

Bath & Dry

A thorough wash using high-quality shampoo suited to your dog’s coat and skin type, followed by a professional blow dry and brush out. Perfect for dogs who just need a freshen up between full grooms or for short-coated breeds.

Great for Short Coats

Nail Trimming

Overgrown nails can cause discomfort and affect your dog’s posture and gait. We offer careful, stress-minimising nail trims as a standalone appointment or as part of any grooming service. Nail filing also available.

Available Standalone

Puppy Groom

A gentle, positive introduction to grooming for puppies. Designed to build confidence and create good associations with the salon environment. Shorter sessions, lots of reassurance, and an introduction to bath, brush, and basic tidying.

Age 12–16 Weeks+

Groom & Tidy

For dogs that only need a trim around the face, paws, and sanitary areas, rather than a full style. Includes a bath and dry. Great for maintaining neat presentation between full groom appointments.

Puppy Grooms

Starting on the Right Paw

A puppy’s first grooming experience can shape their attitude to grooming for their entire life. Get it right and you’ll have a dog that trots happily into the salon. Get it wrong and grooming appointments can become a battle.

At Cwtsh y Ci, our puppy groom sessions are specifically designed to make the experience positive, calm, and confidence-building.

Short, Stress-Free Sessions We keep the first visit shorter and gentler so your puppy is not overwhelmed.

Introduction to Sounds & Sensations We take time to let puppies explore the dryer, clipper sounds, and grooming tools at their own pace before we begin.

Plenty of Positive Reinforcement Lots of praise and encouragement throughout. We work with your puppy, never against them.

One Dog at a Time No other dogs in the salon during your puppy’s visit — no distractions or anxiety from unfamiliar dogs.

Parent Report We’ll always let you know how your puppy got on and give advice on home brushing and maintaining their coat between visits.

What Carmarthen Dog Owners Say

We let our clients and their dogs do the talking. Here is a selection of genuine reviews from Carmarthenshire dog owners.

Our Border Terrier needed hand stripping and I was struggling to find anyone qualified to do it properly. Cwtsh y Ci did a wonderful job — the coat looks exactly as it should. Knowledgeable and genuinely lovely with dogs.

Brought my Schnauzer puppy for his first ever groom. Couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Took the time to let him get used to everything before starting. He was so relaxed. Brilliant service, highly recommended.

My Golden Retriever goes every six weeks and always comes home looking stunning. The one-dog-at-a-time approach is brilliant — she gets full attention and comes home calm rather than stressed. Worth every penny.

Finding a groomer who truly understands anxious dogs is rare. My rescue Greyhound is timid with strangers but was so relaxed here. The environment is calm and quiet and the groomer clearly loves what she does. Wonderful.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before your dog’s first visit.

It depends on the breed and coat type. Long or curly-coated breeds such as Poodles, Cockapoos, and Shih Tzus typically benefit from a groom every 6–8 weeks. Shorter-coated breeds may only need grooming every 8–12 weeks or simply a bath and brush when needed. We are happy to advise you on the best schedule for your specific dog during your first appointment.

No. We work on one dog at a time, always. This means your dog has our complete, undivided attention throughout their entire appointment. There are no other dogs in the salon which is particularly beneficial for anxious or nervous dogs, and for puppies on their first visit.

We recommend booking a puppy’s first visit at around 12–16 weeks of age, once their primary vaccination course is complete. Early socialisation with grooming is incredibly important for building positive associations. The sooner your puppy starts, the easier grooming will be for their whole life.

Absolutely. We have considerable experience with anxious, nervous, and reactive dogs. We work entirely at your dog’s pace — taking breaks when needed and never forcing a dog through something they find distressing. The calm, one-dog-at-a-time environment helps enormously. We ask that you let us know about any anxieties at the time of booking so we can plan accordingly.

Hand stripping is the traditional method of removing dead outer coat from wire-coated breeds such as Border Terriers, Wire Fox Terriers, Irish Terriers, and many spaniel types. Unlike clipping, hand stripping maintains the correct coat texture and colour. If your dog has a wiry, rough coat, they almost certainly benefit from hand stripping rather than being clipped — do get in touch and we can advise you.

This varies by breed, coat condition, and the service booked. A bath and dry for a small short-coated dog might take an hour. A full groom on a large, curly-coated breed in heavy coat could take three hours or more. We will give you an estimated time when you book and will call or message you when your dog is ready for collection.

Please ensure your dog has had a recent toilet break before arriving, as they will be in the salon for the duration of their groom. If your dog has any known health issues, skin conditions, or areas of sensitivity, please mention these at booking. Try not to feed a large meal immediately before the appointment. Beyond that — just bring them along and we will handle the rest.

Severely matted coats can be painful and distressing for a dog if brushed out. In some cases, the kindest option is to clip the coat short and allow it to grow back healthy. We will always discuss the options with you before proceeding and will act in the best interest of your dog’s welfare. There may be an additional charge for heavily matted coats due to the extra time and care required.
