At Cardigan Castle

The Castle Cafe

Where centuries of Welsh history meet the simple pleasure of a beautifully made cup of tea and a slice of something homemade.

01
Simplicity

Good food does not need to be complicated. A freshly baked scone, warm from the oven, with a pot of loose-leaf tea and a view of castle walls that have stood for nine hundred years. That is all. That is enough.

The Setting

Within the walls of Cardigan Castle

Cardigan Castle is one of the most important sites in Welsh history. It was here, in 1176, that Lord Rhys held the first recorded Eisteddfod. Today, the restored castle grounds are home to our cafe, where you can sit among ancient stones and feel the weight of centuries while enjoying the lightest of Victoria sponges.

Kind Words

From Our Visitors

"What a wonderful setting for a cafe. The scones were heavenly, the tea was perfect, and sitting in the castle courtyard on a sunny afternoon was pure magic. A real hidden gem in Cardigan."

Emma L., visiting from Bristol

"We visit every time we're in Cardigan. The Welsh rarebit is the best I've ever had, and the staff are always so warm and welcoming. It feels like stepping back in time, but with better cake."

Tom and Rachel, Carmarthen

"Took my mum for her birthday. She had the afternoon tea and couldn't stop talking about it. The bara brith was outstanding and the setting is just something else entirely. History and hospitality in perfect balance."

Cerys M., Aberystwyth

"I come here to write. Something about the quiet of the castle, the good coffee, and the gentle background hum makes the words flow. The staff never rush you. A rare and precious thing."
