Croeso i Caffi Sgadan

Fresh fish, honest food, and the warmest welcome on the banks of the Teifi. A Cardigan institution where every plate tells a story of the sea.

Our Signature

Fish & Chips

Beer-battered cod landed at Cardigan Bay, hand-cut chips from Pembrokeshire potatoes, and mushy peas made the proper way. The dish that made us famous.

Ein Stori / Our Story

From a simple idea to a Cardigan favourite. Click each tile to discover more about who we are.

01

Born from the Sea

Sgadan means herring in Welsh. Named after the fish that built Cardigan's harbour trade, we carry that heritage in every dish we serve.

Cardigan was once one of the busiest ports in Wales, with herring boats filling the harbour. That connection to the sea runs deep in this town, and in our kitchen.

02

The Community Table

We're the cafe where farmers meet fishermen, where families gather on Saturday mornings, where everyone knows your name and your order.

Whether you're popping in for a quick tea or settling in for a long lunch, there's always a seat and a warm welcome waiting.

03

Simple Done Right

We don't chase trends. We believe in fresh ingredients, proper cooking, and generous portions. Food the way it should be.

Our fish is fresh, our chips are hand-cut, and our cakes are baked each morning. No shortcuts, no gimmicks, just good food.

04

Cardigan Through and Through

We source locally wherever we can. Our fish from Cardigan Bay, our bread from town bakers, our eggs from farms just up the road.

The River Teifi has been the lifeblood of this town for centuries. Sitting in the heart of Cardigan, we're proud to be part of the story of this special corner of Wales. From the castle to the Guildhall, from the high street to the estuary, this is home.

"Best fish and chips in Cardigan, hands down. The cod was perfectly battered and the chips were proper chunky ones. Nothing fancy, just brilliant food. We pop in every time we're in town."

"Stopped in on our coastal path walk. What a find! The soup was homemade and delicious, and the Welsh cakes were to die for. Really friendly service too. Will definitely be back next time we're walking the Ceredigion coast."

"The scampi basket is lovely and the prices are very reasonable. Nice to support a proper local cafe rather than a chain. The cakes are all homemade too — had a slice of bara brith that was absolutely gorgeous."

"Sgadan never lets you down. Wednesday two-for-one is a steal. Took the kids and they demolished their fish fingers. The milkshakes are proper thick ones too. A proper family cafe."
