Where tradition meets innovation in the heart of Cardigan

From humble beginnings to becoming Wales' most beloved artisan bakery, our journey is one of passion, community, and the timeless art of breadmaking that connects us all.

The Sourdough Starter

It began with a simple sourdough starter, lovingly fed daily in a tiny kitchen in Cardigan. Megan Williams, a former chef from London, moved to Wales with nothing but a passion for traditional breadmaking and a dream to bring authentic artisan bakery to her new community.

Opening Our Doors

After four years of market success, we opened our first proper bakery on Cardigan's historic high street. With a wood-fired oven imported from France and recipes perfected through countless early mornings, Bara Menyn Bakehouse was born.

The Coffee Revolution

Recognizing that great bread deserves exceptional coffee, we partnered with a specialty roaster in Machynlleth. Our espresso program launched with single-origin beans, perfectly complementing our morning pastries and creating Cardigan's first true cafe culture.

The Heart of Our Community

More than just a bakery, we've become a gathering place for Cardigan. From hosting bread-making workshops for local schools to supporting food banks with daily donations, our success is measured not just in loaves sold, but in community connections made.

Nourishing Our Neighbors

Every day, we donate unsold bread to local food banks. Our 'Pay It Forward' program allows customers to purchase meals for those in need. We're not just feeding bodies – we're feeding hope, connection, and community spirit.
