A Family Passion, Planted in West Wales

When the Agnelli family first opened their doors in Aberystwyth in the 1980s, they brought with them something no import could replicate: the genuine warmth and culinary soul of an Italian home kitchen.

In the decades since, little has changed — and that is precisely the point. The recipes are the same ones handed down through the family, refined over generations and protected with quiet pride. The dough for the pizza bases is prepared the same way it always has been. The ragu simmers for hours. The tiramisu is assembled fresh each day.

What has grown is the community around the table. Aberystwyth has embraced Agnelli's as its own, and the restaurant has, in turn, become part of the fabric of the town — a place where university students share their first proper Italian meal, where couples mark anniversaries, and where families return year after year.

We are a licensed restaurant. Whether you are celebrating with a bottle of Chianti or enjoying a quiet midweek dinner, we believe the right glass of wine makes everything taste a little better.

From the Stone, to Your Table

Every pizza begins with our slow-proved dough, stretched by hand and laid across the floor of our wood-fired oven. The result is a crust that is light, blistered, and deeply flavoured — the way it should be. Toppings are added with restraint, because the best pizzas are never overloaded.

Classic

Margherita

San Marzano tomato, fior di latte mozzarella, fresh basil, extra virgin olive oil. The benchmark by which all other pizzas are measured.

Signature

Quattro Formaggi

Mozzarella, gorgonzola, fontina, and parmesan on a white base with cracked black pepper and a drizzle of truffle oil.

Prosciutto e Rucola

Tomato base, mozzarella, thinly sliced Parma ham, fresh rocket, shaved parmesan, and a squeeze of lemon. Finished after baking.

Funghi e Tartufo

White cream base with mixed wild mushrooms, garlic, thyme, mozzarella, and a generous finish of truffle oil. Earthy and deeply savoury.

Hot

Diavola

Tomato, mozzarella, spicy Calabrian ‘nduja, sliced chillies, and roasted red peppers. Properly hot. Not for the faint-hearted.

Vegetarian

Verdure Arrosto

Tomato, mozzarella, roasted courgette, aubergine, red onion, cherry tomatoes, and olives with a herbed olive oil drizzle. Garden-fresh and satisfying.

Gluten-free bases are available on request. All pizzas can be made vegetarian — please ask your server. A supplement of £1.50 applies to gluten-free bases.

Made This Morning

Our pasta is prepared fresh each day using semolina, double zero flour, and free-range eggs. We shape it by hand, as it was always meant to be done.

Tagliatelle al Ragu Bolognese
Slow-cooked beef and pork ragu, simmered for four hours in white wine and tomato, with a generous grating of aged parmesan. Our most-ordered dish.
£13.50
Pappardelle al Cinghiale
Wide ribbon pasta with a rich wild boar ragu, rosemary, juniper, and red wine. A robust, deeply flavoured dish ideal for colder evenings.
£15.50
Spaghetti alle Vongole
Fresh clams in white wine, garlic, parsley, and a touch of chilli. Spaghetti cooked to the minute and tossed through the cooking liquor. Coastal and clean.
£16.50
Penne all’Arrabbiata
A fiercely simple tomato and chilli sauce — “angry” by name, properly spiced, with garlic, good olive oil, and fresh basil to finish.
£11.50
Rigatoni alla Norma
A Sicilian classic: roasted aubergine, San Marzano tomatoes, ricotta salata, basil, and a hint of smoked paprika. Rich, textured, and wholly satisfying.
£12.50
Ravioli di Ricotta e Spinaci
Hand-folded ravioli filled with fresh ricotta and wilted spinach, dressed with sage-infused brown butter, lemon zest, and crushed toasted pine nuts.
£13.95
Linguine al Gamberi
King prawns in a bisque-style sauce with cherry tomatoes, white wine, garlic, and fresh tarragon. Served with linguine and crusty focaccia on the side.
£17.50
Gnocchi al Gorgonzola
Pillowy potato gnocchi in a creamy gorgonzola and walnut sauce, finished with fresh pear slices and a scattering of chopped chives. Indulgent and balanced.
£13.50

All pasta dishes can be adapted for vegetarians and most can be made gluten-free with our alternative pasta. Please inform your server of any allergies or dietary requirements before ordering. Our kitchen handles nuts, dairy, gluten, and shellfish.

Starters & Small Plates

The Italian tradition of antipasto is about awakening the appetite — not overwhelming it. Our starters are light, balanced, and built to complement what follows.

Bruschetta al Pomodoro

Toasted sourdough rubbed with garlic, piled high with heritage tomatoes, torn basil, and a finishing drizzle of cold-pressed olive oil. Simple, seasonal, essential.

£5.95

Burrata con Prosciutto

Creamy burrata served at room temperature with Parma ham, roasted cherry tomatoes, pesto, and grilled bread. One of Italy's finest combinations.

£9.50

Zuppa del Giorno

Our soup of the day, made from whatever is best and freshest. Served with a wedge of crusty ciabatta and good butter. Ask your server for today's choice.

£6.50

Calamari Fritti

Rings of fresh squid, lightly dusted and fried until golden, served with a zesty lemon and caper aioli for dipping. Crisp outside, tender within.

£8.95

Carpaccio di Manzo

Wafer-thin slices of fillet beef, dressed with rocket, shaved parmesan, capers, and a mustard-lemon vinaigrette. Elegant, refined, and deeply Italian.

£10.95

Tagliere Misto

A sharing board of cured meats, aged cheeses, olives marinated in herbs, charred focaccia, and house-pickled vegetables. Perfect for two to share.

£14.95

Polpette al Sugo

Hand-rolled beef and pork meatballs, slow-cooked in our house tomato sauce with fresh basil and served with grilled sourdough to mop up every last drop.

£8.50

Pane e Olio

Warm oven-baked focaccia, blistered and fragrant with rosemary and sea salt, served with house-infused olive oil and aged balsamic for dipping.

£4.50

Insalata Caprese

Buffalo mozzarella and sliced heritage tomatoes layered with fresh basil, Sicilian sea salt, and our very best extra virgin olive oil. Nothing superfluous.

£8.95

Dolci & Desserts

No Italian meal is complete without something sweet. Our desserts are made on the premises each day — simple, classic, and deeply comforting.

Tiramisu

The Agnelli family recipe. Savoiardi biscuits soaked in espresso and Marsala, layered with mascarpone cream and dusted with Valrhona cocoa.

£6.95

Panna Cotta

Set cream scented with vanilla and a hint of limoncello, turned out and served with a sharp raspberry coulis and a few fresh berries.

£6.50

Torta al Cioccolato

A dark chocolate fondant cake, warm from the oven with a molten centre, served with a scoop of vanilla gelato and a dusting of icing sugar.

£7.50

Gelato Artigianale

Three scoops of our hand-churned gelato. Flavours change daily — always pistachio, always stracciatella, and one seasonal surprise.

£5.95

All desserts are made on the premises. Some contain alcohol. Please inform us of any allergies. We are happy to advise on individual dishes.

Wine, Beer & Soft Drinks

We hold a full premises licence. Our drinks list has been chosen to complement the food — mostly Italian, occasionally further afield, always good value.

A Place to Linger

Step through the door at Agnelli's and you will notice, first of all, that nobody is in a hurry. The room is warm, the lighting is low, and the smell of wood smoke and garlic drifts from the kitchen. This is not a place for a quick bite — it is a place to settle in, open a bottle, and stay for the evening.

The interior reflects the character of the family who built it: honest, unpretentious, and full of personality. Dark wood tables, candles, and the occasional piece of Italian kitchenware collected over the years. Nothing is staged. Everything is genuinely there.

We seat roughly forty covers across the dining room, with a small bar area near the entrance for those who prefer to wait over an aperitivo. The kitchen is partially open — you will see and hear the pizzas going in and coming out.

Warm, Relaxed Atmosphere No rush, no pressure. Evenings at Agnelli's are about enjoying good food in good company.
Families Most Welcome Children are genuinely welcomed here. High chairs available; smaller portions on request.
Wheelchair Accessible Level access from the street. Please call ahead and we will ensure everything is arranged.

Loved by Aberystwyth

We have been coming to Agnelli's since our student days in Aberystwyth in the nineties. Every time we visit the town, a dinner here is non-negotiable. The tiramisu is still the best I have ever tasted, and the welcome never changes — warm, genuine, and completely unhurried.

Margaret & David H. Swansea — returning guests since 1994

The Diavola is genuinely one of the finest pizzas I have eaten anywhere in the UK. The wood-fired crust is blistered just right, the toppings are restrained and balanced, and the heat from the ’nduja is real. I come back every time I visit Aber. Absolutely outstanding.

James T. Cardiff — visited October 2024

We took three generations of our family for my mother-in-law’s birthday dinner and could not have chosen better. The staff were brilliant with the children, the food arrived beautifully timed, and the Barolo was exceptional. A truly special evening. We will be back.
